Psychological First Aid

 

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed modular approach (shown in the diagram below) to help people in the immediate aftermath of a major incident. It is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping. PFA is based on the following principles that we know help people to cope and recover.

 

You can access free online training in providing Psychological First Aid to people affected by emergencies. To access the course create an account for free at the Scottish Resilience Development Service website or NHS Education for Scotland website.
